87 West Pasaman Earthquake Survivors Get Their Health Checked

The Jakarta Humanitarian Collaborative Task Force provided health services to 87 earthquake survivors in West Pasaman, West Sumatra.

Te services were centered in Nagari Kajai and Nagari Aua Kuniang, West Pasaman Regency, and Tigo Nagari Sub-district Office in Pasaman Regency.

Jakarta Humanitarian and Collaborative Task Force Field Coordinator for Health Workers, Nugrah Alviano explained, around 87 residents aged 15 to 55 years enjoyed the services, consisting of 53 West Pasaman residents and 34 Pasaman residents.

"We visited refugee tents and houses of residents affected by the earthquake. Some residents came to the health post. We asked about their complaints. Most of them have cough, cold, and fever," he conveyed, Monday (3/7).

Before taking medical action, health workers screened the patients. Based on the screening results, most of the patients experienced Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (ISPA), hypertension (high blood pressure), and dyspepsia (gastric acid).

"We give them medicine and multivitamins. One patient from West Pasaman must be referred to the nearest health facility because of difficulty urinating," he mentioned.

Lia (22), resident of Nagari Aua Kuniang, West Pasaman, admitted that she didn't know she had high blood pressure. Initially, she only complained of flu and cough to the medical team, but after being screened, it turned out that her blood pressure was high for her age.

According to a doctor who examined her, Lia had a hypertension emergency with a high blood pressure of 184/128. The doctor not only gave her medicine and multivitamin, but also asked her to get a further examination at the health center to arrange her diet, exercise, and get enough rest.

"If I don't get checked, I won't know. Luckily, there is DKI medical team. They not only gave me medicine and vitamins but also told me about a healthy lifestyle," she expressed.
